Kent’s an American…… ‘Nuff said.But then this would be a short intro, wouldn’t it…
Kent spent most of his life speaking of himself in the third person, much to the annoyance of his parents, friends and local authorities.Fortunately his parents left him alone, he had no friends and the authorities usually could not find him.At an early age he started to learn to play the electric guitar, mainly to annoy people. His plan worked very well with one drawback, he actually found he enjoyed playing and so decided to try to improve.
A large part of the blame rests firmly with his mother, who, when he was 5, forced him at gunpoint to go onto a stage in front of a very large audience and sing.Kent, instead of being scared, as most were hoping, thought:
"cool"
and sadly has kept at it since then.
He moved around quite a bit during his adult life, mostly for legal reasons, eventually running out of states to hide in. At this point he decided the time was ripe to leave the country. He stowed a way on a smelt fishing boat headed to Portugal.Somehow he wound up in London.
No one is quite sure how.
He spent a couple of years down there doing various things with yaks till he was almost caught and he fled to the northlands where they can’t really understand his accent and thus gets along well.
Soon after moving up here his phone rang, and instead of screaming at it like he normally does he answered it and soon found himself at a pub talking to a gent named Gareth.
And the rest, as they say, will hopefully be history.
Ok, so maybe that is not entirely the truth, but far more interesting. In truth I have been playing for a while, ever since I saw Frank Zappa on TV. Played in a bunch of bands in New York State, Boston and LA. Moved over to the UK almost 6 years ago, first to London, where the scene was a bit to clogged for me so I did not play much. 2.5 years later I moved up here to the north and met Gareth when he called me (I had an ad up in the local guitar shop) and asked if I wanted to play percussion in a group he was putting together.
At the first get together I was on doumbec, Tracey was on guitar and Gareth on drums. The bass player never showed, so the next time round we changed, T went to bass, and I back on my main instrament, guitar.
I also play a bit of mandoline and Portuguese Guitar, plus various hand drums and the Zils.
